Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) Liquid CAS 67-68-5 — Pharmaceutical & Industrial Grade | UAB An Group Export

Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) is one of the most scientifically
fascinating and industrially versatile solvents known to
chemistry. Unlike almost any other solvent, DMSO is capable
of penetrating biological membranes — including human skin —
without causing irreversible structural damage, a property
that has made it uniquely valuable across pharmaceutical
drug delivery research, cryobiology, veterinary medicine,
and laboratory science for over six decades.

First synthesised in 1866 and introduced to biological
research in the 1960s, DMSO has accumulated an extraordinary
body of scientific literature documenting its unique
biological activity, solvent properties, and industrial
utility. Today it is manufactured globally at high purity
for use across pharmaceutical, laboratory, industrial,
and veterinary applications.

UAB An Group Export supplies pharmaceutical and
industrial-grade DMSO liquid to verified buyers worldwide
with full documentation and reliable international delivery.

Important Note on Physical State

DMSO has a melting point of 18.5 deg C (65 deg F), meaning
it may solidify in cool storage or shipping environments.
This is a normal physical property and does not indicate
degradation or contamination. Simply warm the container
gently in warm water (40-50 deg C) to restore the liquid
state. Product quality is fully maintained through
solidification and remelting cycles.

Primary Industrial Applications

1. Pharmaceutical Drug Delivery Research
DMSO is the most widely studied solvent for transdermal
drug delivery, valued for its unique ability to carry
dissolved active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) through
skin and tissue barriers. This property has driven extensive
research into topical drug formulations where conventional
delivery vehicles fail to achieve adequate tissue penetration.
Pharmaceutical research institutions and drug development
companies use pharmaceutical-grade DMSO as both a vehicle
for compound delivery in animal studies and as a standard
solvent for compound library preparation and biological
activity screening.

2. Cryobiology and Biobanking
DMSO is the gold standard cryoprotectant in cell and tissue
preservation for biobanking, stem cell therapy, reproductive
medicine, and blood banking. At concentrations of 5-10%
v/v in cryopreservation media, DMSO prevents the formation
of ice crystals that would otherwise destroy cellular
structures during freezing to cryogenic temperatures. It
is used in the preservation of red blood cells, platelets,
bone marrow, embryos, oocytes, and a wide range of primary
cell types and cell lines.

3. Laboratory Solvent and Compound Storage
DMSO is the preferred solvent for dissolving and storing
compound libraries in pharmaceutical and biochemical
research, valued for its ability to solubilise both
polar and non-polar compounds at high concentrations.
Its low freezing point (when mixed with water) and
excellent long-term compound stability make it the
standard vehicle for high-throughput screening (HTS)
compound collections. Most pharmaceutical compound
libraries worldwide are stored as DMSO solutions.

4. Industrial Chemical Processing
In industrial chemistry, DMSO serves as a high-performance
reaction solvent for specialty chemical synthesis, polymer
processing, and extraction operations. Its exceptional
solvency for both polar and non-polar compounds makes
it valuable in processes where conventional solvents
cannot achieve the required dissolution or reaction
conditions. It is also used as a reaction solvent in
the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and
specialty chemical intermediates.

5. Veterinary Medicine
DMSO has regulatory approval as a veterinary pharmaceutical
in several jurisdictions, used as a topical anti-inflammatory
agent and carrier for veterinary drug formulations. Its
membrane penetration properties make it effective for
delivering anti-inflammatory active ingredients to
musculoskeletal tissues in horses and other large animals.

6. Electronics and Specialty Cleaning
In electronics manufacturing, DMSO is used as a specialty
cleaning solvent for removing photoresists, polymer films,
and specialty coatings from electronic components and
semiconductor wafers where conventional cleaning solvents
are insufficient.

Handling and Safety

CRITICAL: DMSO readily penetrates skin and can carry
dissolved substances through the skin barrier. Always
ensure hands and skin are clean and free of any other
chemical before handling DMSO. Use clean nitrile gloves
specifically for DMSO handling. Eye protection is
mandatory. Handle in a well-ventilated area. Do not
handle DMSO while wearing contaminated gloves from
other chemical handling operations.

Storage Requirements

Store at 15-30 deg C in tightly sealed glass or HDPE
containers. Avoid metal containers as DMSO can corrode
certain metals. Keep away from strong oxidising agents.
Protect from moisture absorption — DMSO is hygroscopic
and will absorb water from the atmosphere if left
unsealed. Ideal storage temperature range: 20-25 deg C
to maintain liquid state.
